In Long Term Foster

Some animals aren't suitable for rehoming but they deserve a safe, loving life all the same. These special souls live in long term foster with dedicated carers — they are not available for adoption, but you can sponsor them to help with their care.

Lily
I'm Lily

This 7 year old girl would really love a home to call her own but unfortunately she has cancer and also a bladder problem. She is the sweetest loving girl; it's so sad. She is not good with cats.

Lily loves to hunt lizards or mooch in the garden but she tries to wee every 10 minutes when outside the kennel but when inside she is a very clean girl.

When you try to put her harness on she just rolls over for a tummy tickle.

Hugo
I'm Hugo

Found collapsed in Hondon de los Frailes. His body was completely empty of fluid and food. He was 20 kg underweight. He was abandoned by his owner when he sold his house. We fear he had been beaten due to the way he cowers when you go to stroke his head. He has lacerations to his face and other problems. He has been many times to the vets to help him on his road to recovery and he is in a lot better shape. He will need continual care and attention specifically with his back muscles, hip and back legs. He is happy to laze outside. He is free to come in and out of the house. This old boy will see out his time with his fosterers who take very good care of him.

Keira
I'm Keira

Originally rescued in Hondon de las Nieves, she had been starved so badly her bones were sticking through her skin and dripping blood. We successfully prosecuted the owner. We built her back up but sadly the starvation has taken its toll on her immune system and she has since succumbed to a number of serious medical conditions. Tumours, lymphona, leishmania, etc, but she remains a happy girl and loves life and food. She will remain in the sanctuary until life becomes too much for her.

Chico
I'm Chico – Little Legs

This gentle 10-year-old boy is very timid and has been through a lot, including Leishmania. He has had an ear removed and recently underwent surgery to remove a tumour and his spleen. We are currently awaiting biopsy results to guide his care, and he is being lovingly supported every step of the way.

Bertie
I'm Bertie

11+ Year old Bertie unfortunately has very bad arthritis. He has had 3 tumours that were unfortunately malignant but have since been removed. He suffers from a skin condition similar to eczema. Bertie is now negative to Leishmania but this needs reviewing yearly where he was positive previously. He has also had an enlarged liver, and tremors.

Princess
I'm Princess

Due to Kidney failure poor Princess (5 years old) needs continued support from Hovar due to the need of special food, medication and regular blood checks.

rudy
I'm Rudy

Sadly a feral dog who will not allow himself to be loved, held or touched. He is good with other dogs and on occasions will take food from your hands. If you try and pick him up he is so terrified he would poop. He is happy sleeping in the house at night and running around the garden during the day with the other dogs. He's 7 years old. Bodeguero.
